⚠️ Warning: People Vaccinated Against COVID-19 May Notice These Things — Here’s What You Should Know
COVID-19 vaccines can cause temporary side effects, but being vaccinated does not mean that a person will develop a serious illness. Most vaccine reactions are mild and resolve within a few days.
1. Soreness where the vaccine was given 💉
Pain, tenderness, redness, or mild swelling around the injection site is common and generally improves on its own.
2. Fatigue
Some people experience tiredness for a day or two after vaccination. Rest and adequate fluids can help.
3. Headache or muscle aches
Headaches, muscle aches, or joint discomfort can occur as the immune system responds to vaccination.
4. Fever or chills
A mild fever or chills may occur temporarily. These symptoms generally settle without treatment.
5. Swollen lymph nodes
Some people develop temporarily enlarged or tender lymph nodes, particularly in the armpit on the side where the vaccine was administered. This usually resolves with time.
6. Feeling generally unwell
A short period of feeling tired, achy, or “under the weather” can happen after vaccination and is usually temporary.
🚨 When Should You Seek Medical Help?
Most vaccine side effects are not dangerous. However, seek emergency medical care if you develop symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, widespread hives, or severe dizziness.
Certain very rare vaccine-associated conditions have also been reported with some COVID-19 vaccine types. Persistent chest pain, shortness of breath, or a racing/pounding heartbeat after vaccination should be medically evaluated, rather than assumed to be a normal vaccine reaction.
❤️ One important fact
COVID-19 vaccines have been extensively studied, and recommendations can differ depending on the vaccine, age, health circumstances, and country. A vaccine side effect should not be confused with a claim that vaccination causes every health problem that happens afterward. When a serious or persistent symptom occurs, a healthcare professional can determine whether it is related to vaccination or has another cause.
If you’re experiencing a specific symptom after a COVID-19 vaccination, tell me what the symptom is and how long after vaccination it started, and I can explain what is known about it.
