4-Ingredient Slow Cooker Sausage and Dumplings
This comforting slow-cooker sausage and dumplings recipe is warm, hearty, and incredibly easy to prepare. With just four main ingredients, you can create a filling family meal with tender sausage, flavorful gravy, and soft, fluffy dumplings.
Ingredients
- 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced into bite-sized pieces
- 1 can condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1½ cups chicken broth
- 1 package refrigerated biscuit dough
Instructions
- Prepare the sausage: Slice the sausage into even pieces. You can use smoked sausage, kielbasa, or another fully cooked sausage you enjoy.
- Add the ingredients: Place the sliced sausage into the slow cooker. Pour in the condensed cream of chicken soup and chicken broth, then stir gently until everything is combined.
- Slow cook: Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours. The sausage will heat through while the sauce becomes rich and flavorful.
- Prepare the dumplings: Cut the refrigerated biscuit dough into small pieces. When the sausage mixture is hot and bubbling, arrange the biscuit pieces over the top without stirring them into the sauce.
- Cook the dumplings: Cover the slow cooker again and cook on HIGH for about 30–45 minutes, or until the biscuit pieces are puffed and cooked through in the center.
- Check and serve: Carefully check one dumpling to make sure it is no longer doughy inside. Once cooked, spoon the sausage and creamy sauce into bowls and serve immediately.
Helpful Tips
Avoid lifting the slow-cooker lid repeatedly while the dumplings are cooking, as escaping steam can increase the cooking time. If the sauce becomes thicker than you prefer, you can stir in a small amount of warm broth before serving.
Serving Ideas
Serve this hearty dish with steamed green beans, peas, carrots, or a simple green salad. The creamy sauce also pairs well with crusty bread for soaking up every last bit.
