Crockpot 4-Ingredient Cabbage and Potatoes
A simple, hearty slow-cooker side dish made with tender cabbage, buttery potatoes, and a savory seasoning. It takes only a few ingredients and lets the crockpot do most of the work.
Ingredients
- 1 small head green cabbage, chopped
- 1½ pounds baby potatoes, halved or quartered
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Prepare the vegetables: Wash the potatoes and cut larger ones into halves or quarters. Chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces.
- Layer the crockpot: Place about half of the cabbage in the bottom of the slow cooker. Add the potatoes, then pile the remaining cabbage on top.
- Add the butter: Cut the butter into small pieces and distribute it over the vegetables.
- Season: Sprinkle with salt and black pepper. If you prefer a more seasoned dish, you can add garlic powder or onion powder, but the basic recipe works with just the four ingredients.
- Slow cook: Cover and cook on LOW for 5–6 hours or HIGH for 2½–3½ hours, until the potatoes are fork-tender and the cabbage is soft.
- Stir and serve: Gently stir everything together before serving, coating the potatoes and cabbage with the buttery juices.
Helpful Tip
Try not to cut the potatoes too small, or they may become overly soft before the cabbage is finished. Baby potatoes or similarly sized potato chunks work particularly well.
For a heartier meal, you can serve the cabbage and potatoes alongside roasted chicken, sausage, ham, or another favorite protein.
