๐๏ธ โ2 Minutes a Day to Regain Vision Like You Had at 20โ
This is a misleading health claim if it suggests that a simple 2-minute exercise can restore aging eyesight to the vision you had at 20.
There are, however, some simple habits that can make your eyes feel more comfortable and reduce temporary eye strain.
1. ๐ Try the 20-20-20 Rule
If you spend a lot of time looking at a phone or computer, periodically look at something about 20 feet (6 meters) away for 20 seconds.
This can help reduce digital eye strain and give your focusing muscles a break.
It doesn’t reverse cataracts, presbyopia, glaucoma, macular degeneration, or other eye diseases.
2. ๐ Blink More Often
People tend to blink less when concentrating on screens.
Deliberately blinking several times can help spread tears across the surface of the eye and reduce:
- Dryness
- Burning
- Grittiness
- Temporary blurred vision
3. ๐ง Relax Your Eyes
Close your eyes gently for a short period and relax your facial muscles. This can be comfortable after prolonged near work.
But relaxation isn’t the same as restoring lost eyesight.
4. ๐ Understand Presbyopia
After around age 40, many people gradually develop presbyopia, in which the eye becomes less able to focus on nearby objects.
Typical symptoms include:
- Holding books farther away
- Difficulty reading small print
- Needing brighter light
- Eye fatigue while reading
An eye exercise cannot reliably restore the youthful flexibility of the eye’s natural lens. Reading glasses, contact lenses, or other treatments may be appropriate depending on the individual.
5. ๐ฉบ Don’t Ignore Changes in Vision
A sudden change in vision shouldn’t be treated with an internet exercise.
Get prompt medical attention for symptoms such as:
- Sudden loss of vision
- A sudden increase in floaters
- Flashes of light
- A dark curtain or shadow across your vision
- Severe eye pain
- Sudden double vision
These can sometimes indicate an eye emergency.
โญ The Truth Behind the โ2-Minuteโ Claim
There is no scientifically established two-minute daily exercise that can make an older person’s eyesight identical to the eyesight they had at age 20.
Short eye-relaxation exercises can be useful for comfort and eye strain, but they shouldn’t be marketed as a cure for age-related vision changes or me and I can explain exactly what it claims to do and whether the science eye disease.
If you have a specific โ2-minute vision exerciseโ video, screenshot, or advertisement, send it to me and I can explain exactly what it claims to do and whether the science supports it.
