Cheesy Beef Puff Pastry Twists

These crispy, savory twists are filled with seasoned ground beef and melted cheese, then baked until golden and flaky. They’re great as an appetizer, snack, or party food.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 250 g ground beef
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds or dried parsley, optional
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef: Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 2–3 minutes. Add the garlic and ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Season: Add tomato paste, paprika, black pepper, salt, and oregano. Cook until the beef is fully cooked and most of the moisture has evaporated. Let the mixture cool.
  3. Prepare the pastry: Heat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Place the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and gently roll it into a rectangle.
  4. Add the filling: Spread the cooled beef mixture over half of the pastry and sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over it. Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling and gently press the edges together.
  5. Cut and twist: Cut the filled pastry into strips about 2–3 cm wide. Twist each strip several times and place it on a parchment-lined baking tray, leaving space between the twists.
  6. Brush and decorate: Brush each twist with beaten egg. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or parsley if desired.
  7. Bake: Bake for approximately 15–20 minutes, or until puffed and deeply golden brown.
  8. Cool briefly: Let the twists rest for 5 minutes before serving. The cheese will be very hot immediately after baking.

Tips for Extra-Crispy Twists

Keep the puff pastry cold while working with it. If it becomes soft or sticky, place the prepared twists in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes before baking.

Make sure the beef filling isn’t watery. Excess moisture can prevent the pastry from becoming crisp.

For extra flavor, add a little chili flakes, Worcestershire sauce, or finely chopped green bell pepper to the beef.

Serve warm with garlic yogurt, ketchup, marinara sauce, or a spicy dipping sauce.
