Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs
Crispy, juicy chicken thighs coated in a sticky honey-garlic glaze. This easy recipe works beautifully for a weeknight dinner and takes about 35–40 minutes.
Ingredients
For the chicken
- 6 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
For the honey garlic sauce
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon water
- ½ teaspoon red chili flakes — optional
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds — optional
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or spring onion — for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the chicken
Pat the chicken thighs very dry with paper towels. This is important for getting a crispy exterior.
Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Sprinkle the cornstarch over the chicken and toss until each piece is lightly coated.
2. Make the honey garlic sauce
In a small bowl, mix together:
- Honey
- Soy sauce
- Minced garlic
- Vinegar or lemon juice
- Water
- Chili flakes, if using
Set aside.
3. Crisp the chicken
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Place the chicken thighs in the pan without overcrowding them. Cook for approximately 5–7 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until deeply golden and cooked through.
The chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165°F / 74°C.
Transfer the chicken to a plate.
4. Add the honey garlic glaze
Reduce the heat to medium-low.
Pour the honey-garlic sauce into the same skillet. Let it bubble gently for about 1–2 minutes, stirring frequently.
Be careful not to cook it over very high heat—the honey can burn quickly.
5. Coat the chicken
Return the crispy chicken thighs to the skillet.
Turn them several times, spooning the thickening glaze over the top. Cook for another 1–2 minutes, until the chicken is shiny and coated.
6. Garnish and serve
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped parsley or spring onion.
Serve immediately while the chicken is still crispy.
What to Serve With It
These chicken thighs pair especially well with:
- 🍚 Steamed white or jasmine rice
- 🥦 Roasted or stir-fried vegetables
- 🥔 Mashed potatoes
- 🥗 Fresh cucumber salad
- 🍜 Noodles
- 🫓 Warm naan or flatbread
Tips for Extra-Crispy Chicken
Dry the chicken well. Moisture is the enemy of crispiness.
Don’t overcrowd the pan. Cook in batches if necessary.
Use cornstarch. It creates a lighter, crispier crust than flour alone.
Glaze at the end. Honey can burn if exposed to high heat for too long.
Serve immediately. The longer the chicken sits in the sauce, the softer the crust becomes.
Quick Flavor Upgrade
For a spicy sweet-and-hot version, add ½–1 teaspoon of chili flakes or a little hot sauce to the honey-garlic glaze. For an Asian-style finish, add a few drops of toasted sesame oil just before serving.
