Air Fryer Grilled Cheese
Crispy, golden bread with perfectly melted cheese in the middle—without needing a skillet.
Ingredients
- 2 slices sandwich bread
- 1–2 tablespoons softened butter
- 2–3 slices cheddar, American, or your favorite melting cheese
- Optional: pinch of garlic powder or Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Butter the bread: Spread a thin, even layer of softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
- Assemble: Place the cheese between the slices with the buttered sides facing outward.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 2–3 minutes, if your model requires preheating.
- Air fry: Place the sandwich in the basket and cook for 4 minutes.
- Carefully flip it and cook for another 2–4 minutes, until both sides are golden brown and the cheese is completely melted.
- Let it rest for 1–2 minutes, then slice and serve.
For the crispiest grilled cheese
Use medium-thick bread, don’t overload it with cheese, and avoid overcrowding the air-fryer basket. If the bread tends to lift or separate because of the circulating air, secure the sandwich with a wooden toothpick—and remove it before eating.
Try cheddar + mozzarella for a combination of sharp flavor and extra stretch.
