Air Fryer Grilled Cheese Recipe

Air Fryer Grilled Cheese

Crispy, golden bread with perfectly melted cheese in the middle—without needing a skillet.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices sandwich bread
  • 1–2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 2–3 slices cheddar, American, or your favorite melting cheese
  • Optional: pinch of garlic powder or Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Butter the bread: Spread a thin, even layer of softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
  2. Assemble: Place the cheese between the slices with the buttered sides facing outward.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 2–3 minutes, if your model requires preheating.
  4. Air fry: Place the sandwich in the basket and cook for 4 minutes.
  5. Carefully flip it and cook for another 2–4 minutes, until both sides are golden brown and the cheese is completely melted.
  6. Let it rest for 1–2 minutes, then slice and serve.

For the crispiest grilled cheese

Use medium-thick bread, don’t overload it with cheese, and avoid overcrowding the air-fryer basket. If the bread tends to lift or separate because of the circulating air, secure the sandwich with a wooden toothpick—and remove it before eating.

Try cheddar + mozzarella for a combination of sharp flavor and extra stretch.
