frozen pierogi into the slow cooker

Posted on January 16, 2026 by Admin

Ah yes! That’s a classic lazy comfort food hack—using frozen pierogi in the slow cooker turns them into a creamy, hearty meal with almost zero effort. Here’s a simple slow cooker pierogi comfort recipe:

Slow Cooker Pierogi Comfort Meal

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 bag (about 12 oz / 340 g) frozen pierogi (cheese, potato, or your favorite)
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1–2 cups sour cream (or half-and-half for creamier version)
  • 2–3 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: cooked bacon or sausage, shredded cheese, chopped green onions

Instructions

1. Layer Ingredients

  1. Spray slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Place frozen pierogi in the slow cooker.
  3. Scatter sliced onions and butter on top.
  4. Sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

2. Add Creaminess

  • Pour sour cream evenly over the pierogi.
  • Optional: Add ¼–½ cup shredded cheese for extra richness.

3. Cook

  • Cover and cook on low for 3–4 hours or high for 1.5–2 hours, until pierogi are soft and creamy.
  • Stir gently halfway through to coat pierogi in the sauce.

4. Serve

  • Garnish with chopped green onions or crumbled bacon if desired.
  • Serve hot as a main dish or side.

Tips

  • Cheese pierogi: You can skip extra cheese or still add a little for a double cheesy version.
  • Extra flavor: Stir in a teaspoon of Dijon mustard or smoked paprika.
  • Make it a meal: Add frozen peas or spinach in the last 30 minutes of cooking.

If you want, I can also give a “dump-and-go one-step pierogi casserole” that layers everything and cooks while you leave the house—perfect for effortless comfort food.

Do you want me to do that?
